What is DrenchSmartω
DrenchSmart is a faecal egg count reduction test that assesses drench efficacy on your property. DrenchSmart is currently available for sheep and goats.
Why do itω
DrenchSmart provides a property drench status report that can be used to make informed drench selection decisions.
These decisions can delay the onset of drench resistance, reduce costs, and increase profitability by selecting only drenches that are effective.
DrenchSmart can test the following drench actives for efficacy on your property:
- Benzimidazoles
- Levamisoles
- Combination (BZ and Lev)
- Ivermectin Full
- Ivermectin Half
- Abamectin
- Moxidectin
(A minumum of four drenches must be chosen with a maximum of seven. All assessments will have a control group).
How can the information produced from a DrenchSmart Assessment be usedω
DrenchSmart can assist you with:
- Property valuation
- The development of effective quarantine protocols
- Increasing performance and profitability within your operation
- Removing the guesswork by knowing which drenches work on your property
- Ensuring longevity of drenches on your property by protecting the drugs that are working
What is involvedω
Contact us at FECPAK International Ltd to organise a DrenchSmart Assessment. A mob faecal egg count (FEC) test from your animals will be carried out and validated through the FECPAK laboratory to ensure that the FECs are high enough to start the DrenchSmart Assessment. FECs must be a minimum of 500eggs per gram (epg), although it is recommended to be 700-800epg.
Once a starting FEC of at least 500epg is found, a DrenchSmart agreement is signed by all parties (Customer, Contractor and FECPAK). The first sample collection can then be arranged and carried out.
First Sample Collection:
The customer must supply the animals (12 per drench group) and the weigh equipment. All other equipment required for the collection is supplied. The animals are sampled, weighed, ear tagged (to indicate drench group - with no exceptions) and drenched orally with the contractors support. All drenches used are listed on the submission form with their batch numbers and must be within their expiry date. A composite mob sample per drench is then assessed back at the lab
10 Day Sample Collection:
The Day 10 collection is carried out by the customer. All equipment and instructions for the collection are provided. Twelve individual samples are collected from the same animals ear tagged for each drench group. Twelve individual samples per drench group are then assessed back at the lab.
What will you getω
In your DrenchSmart Report you will get:
- Actual data - individual FEC count results and Larval Culture Results will be included.
- Recommendations - FECPAK Interpretation of the results will be produced.
- Parasite Species Identification - where possible resistant parasite species will be identified.
The final DrenchSmart Report contains all of the above information and also general information on DrenchSmart Protocols and application of results.
DrenchSmart Assessments are only carried out by certified contrators through FECPAK International Ltd
