SPOTCHEK Dosing Identification System

Designed for capsule applicators and oral dosing guns. The SPOTCHEK system is a very simple product that makes an awkward job easier! The product consists of a laminated foam sponge that works as a reservoir for the marking dye. The pads fit over the nozzle of the gun or the neck of the applicator and holds enough dye to mark 2 – 3 races of sheep (depends on race size and stock class) The pad can then be topped up with more dye. The dye comes in a range of colours and is fully scourable. The dye lasts on the animal approximately 2 – 3 days depending on conditions. Trials have shown when dosing lambs up to 2% of the animals can be missed and 3% can be double dosed. The benefits for farmers using SPOTCHEK include:

• When two people are working in the race the "marking" means each person can work from opposite ends of the race.
• A wider race can be used saving time and effort.
• Many users do not have to get into the race when handling ewes because you can go up one side and then back the other to drench those that have no marks thus saving in time and effort
• The assurance to stock managers that employ staff that all stock have been dosed because of tell tale marks on mouths
• If a gate is inadvertently left open dosed animals can be easily identified. Any animal that has jumped out of the race can also be easily spotted.
• Even if two people are drenching it can be seen what animals are done and the question "Have you done this one?" never comes up.
• If the backpack runs out of drench, it is not a problem to return to the undrenched part of the race

Other capsule issues

• Heavily pregnant ewes can be loosely filed in the race as using SPOTCHEK provides the confidence that none of the animals will be missed.
• As capsules are a high value product, accurate identification is essential.
• SPOTCHEK allows the farmer to leave a race with half the sheep dosed:
  - so that more capsules can be got from packets
  - to fill the shed at shearing time
  - to catch any sheep that jump out of race etc.
• By using a different colour on each applicator the person who has dosed an animal can be identified.

Dosing sheep is a very important and expensive exercise. SPOTCHEK is an inexpensive product that improves the quality and accuracy of the operation and can save time and money by eliminating double dosing and missed treatments.
