  • Controlling Worms in Horses - The Need For Change

A report by Greg Mirams - Managing Director of FECPAK International Ltd, on controlling worms in horses.

Greg covers the importance of sustainable worm control, monitoring FECs and drench resistance in horses.

  • Improving Worm Control in Horses

A summary of a presentation given in January 2004 by Dr. Gerald Coles of the Univerisy of Bristol's Department of Veterinary Science in the UK, focusing on the status of equine internal parasite management.

Gerald covered areas such as what the parasite problems are, what is being done to control them, drench resistance issues, alternative methods to chemical control and his recommendations for effective parasite control.

  • Cattletech Project - A study of on-farm worm control in cattle

A year long case study, conducted on a mixture of 12 beef and dairy farms, investigating the significance of a refined FEC procedure for cattle. Key findings include recognising that each property is unique, taking seasonal conditions into consideration, and developing an integrated approach to better manage worm burdens.

Drench resistance on some properties and the detection of drench failure on others, were two important issues investigated, leading farmers to manage their animal health treatments more efficiently, without compromising animal performance.

  • Sheep Industry Anthelmintic Investment?

With a decrease in the number of sheep wintered nationally, this report questions why there has been an increase in drench spending. It provides explanations as to why the trend has occurred, and explores what effects annual drench rotations has had on the sheep industry.

It also emphasises the importance of integrated planning, where all issues affecting the development of drench resistance are taken into consideration.

  • Extract from the "Stapledon Report"

An insight into the current problems associated with FECs tested off the farm, and the ways in which the FECPAK system can eliminate these issues, with a higher degree of accuracy and ease of use.

This extract explains how the FECPAK kit is designed to help the farmer make informed decisions, and comes complete with all necessary equipment and an illustrated manual. Frequent monitoring of results will allow the farmer to collaborate results from FEC testing and other variables to better manage their property activities, and reduce worm burdens in stock.

  • Big Dollars to be Saved on Farm

Farmers participating in the year long Cattletech Project, conducted by FECPAK International, have witnessed significant time and money savings. The trial, supported by experts such as consultant and Lincoln University scientist Alex Familton, and companies such as NRM, Ravensdown and CRT, resulted in improved accuracy of FEC test results and farm-specific information. All this led to developments allowing farmers to formulate unique management strategies to reduce costs, while improving farm productivity.
